Just because Independence Day is over doesn’t mean the BOOM! has to stop. This week, PCU is having a special focus on Boom! Studios, one of the comics industry’s rising smaller-press publishers.
Now in its 11th year of publication, BOOM! has grown from a fledgling publisher which started with only one title in July 2005. Boom now operates with three sub-imprints: Archaia (which includes David Petersen’s Mouse Guard), BOOM! Box (a child-friendly line which tends to include kid-oriented licensed properties such as Peanuts and Garfield), and Kaboom! (an all-ages “experimental” line which includes Lumberjanes). Between BOOM!’s talent and its quality of work, it’s unsurprising that the company has consistently won at least one publishing award every year since 2009 along with many more nominations.
